Elizabeth
The quaint village of Elizabeth has many fine antique shops, talented artisans and musicians. Folks here are very proud of the new State Historic Site - The Apple River Fort. The carefully re-created Fort was attacked by Blackhawk and his war party in 1832.

Dubuque, Iowa
Across the Mississippi River lies the city of Dubuque for Riverboat Gambling, shopping, Greyhound Park, fine museums and Riverboat Rides.

Golf
There are lots of Golf Courses within a 1/2 hour drive including the championship courses at Eagle Ridge.

Downhill and Cross Country Skiing
Apple Canyon Lake and The Galena Territory have cross country ski trails and are close by. Chestnut Mountain Resort is a few minutes south of Galena and overlooks the Mississippi River.

Parks
Apple River Canyon State Park has many 'hiking trails and unique, beautiful bluffs and canyons. Also in the area are horseback riding hayrides and carriage rides are available only minutes away. Bring your bicycle for some of the most beautiful scenery anywhere!

Birding
Several re-claimed prairie sites are located throughout the rolling hills of our county. Eagle sighting is popular along the Mississippi River and Bluebird Trails abound!
